AY Makun’s Movie 'The Waiter' Surpases ₦300 million At The Nigerian Box Office.

A movie produced by Nigerian comedian and actor AY Makun titled “The Waiter”, has surpassed ₦300 million at the Nigerian box office.

This development occured on January 15, 2025, when The Waiter hit  an impressive ₦305.1 million, and go on to firmly establish itself as one of Nollywood’s most successful movie releases.

Amidst fierce competition with several other hit movies that was there before it, The Waiter raked in additional ₦26.6 million in its fourth week.

This action-comedy film which was released on December 20, 2024, did not take much time to capture the viewer’s attention. By early January which was two weeks after it’s release, the movie crossed the ₦200 million milestone with total earnings amounting to ₦218.6 million.

These numbers place The Waiter it in the same league as other Nollywood blockbusters, including: Alabaka Bad and Boujee by Toyin Abraham’s which premiered on the same day, as well as Everybody Loves Jenifa, the record-breaking film that has grossed over ₦1.6 billion.

About The Waiter

The movie centers around  Akpos, played by AY Makun, an unlucky man who lands a temporary job as a waiter at the upscale Crystal Hotel.

His life however takes an unexpected turn during a high-profile event that was hosted by the Minister of Poverty Alleviation, with a scheme to aid the underprivileged.

By mixing clever humour, action, and poignant moments, The Waiter delivers a captivating story that has resonated deeply with audiences.
