Mistakes are the reason why so many people fail to become successful in every sphere of life, and content creation is no less.
The best way to achieve success in life is getting a foreknowledge of how to go execute your goals in the right way.
As a n intending content creator, you need to learn the ropesof the game before you ever get started.
Having made this particular mistake myself, and all thanks to God that I was able to learn fromthat experience and start all over again, I think I am in the right position to reveal to you this mistake and show you how to avoid it.
If you want to save the stress of reading, I have this article on a YouTube video which you can watch below.
One mistake you should avoid as a content creator at all cost.
One mistake you should avoid as a content creator at all cost is creating content on a topic you know nothing about, because when you make this mistake, the two things that are going to happen are:
- You are going to find it hard to come up with content ideas and
- You will end up misleading or deceiving your target audience.
Now, let me try to expantiate further on these teo reasons before I show you how to avoid this mistake.
Why you will find it hard to come up with content ideas.
To succeed as a content creator, you need to stay consistent, and that involves dishing out more content every now and then.
Now, if you are creating content on a topic you know nothing about, you must definitely spend days and time researching, studying, learning etc. in order to come up with a content idea.
Another problem is that, since you will not be speaking from the angle of experience, you will not be able to explain in great details and moreover give examples, that comes from your own experience.
How you will end up misleading and deceiving people.
When you are creating content on a topic you know nothing about, all you will be passing across are false information and when people try it out and see that it does not work, they will never engage with your content again.
You must also note that there are so many people who are experts in that field you do not know but create content about, so when these kinds come across your content they will refuse to engage with it.
And worst still, they can stop over to alert others about the false information you are spreading.
Don’t forget that those who follow you ignorantly are going to unfollow once they realize you are giving giving them fake information.
How to avoid this one mistake.
To avoid this one mistake in content creation, make sure you choose a topic you are knowledgeable about. The best choice will be a topic in your area of expertise or profession, or even a talent you’ve been able to develop.
It is, however, not wrong to choose more than one topic, but the rule of thumb when doing this is to create more content on a specific topic, to establish authority, before you move on to the next one. Once you have made enough content on the topics you have chosen, you can then mix and match the content as you like.
For example, when I started my social media content journey, I focused on making content about content creation until I saw that I had made enough of it before I began to branch out to my other areas of expertise.
